promote prosecution

Before you start rallying at city hall, know there is excellent legislation in place in the state of Illinois to prosecute someone charged with trafficking people. However, not a single trafficker has been prosecuted since these laws were enacted in 2006.

Below is the email you can send to our state prosecutors. Ask them to follow through with their cases to set a precedent that trafficking will not be tolerated in our city or state. Feel free to do a little personalization, sign it, then send it to Attorney Alvarez: stateattorney@cookcountygov.com. Afterwards, invite a couple friends to do the same.

Attorney Alvarez,

Recent news shows that the excellent team you have assembled is making great strides toward making our county safer. Moving forward, I look forward to seeing your diverse and dynamic office deliver strong results, particularly in the area of trafficking, an established industry that greatly concerns me.

I am one of many Cook County residents increasingly aware of the boon in human trafficking in our county. The effects, particularly on targeted minors, are beyond devastating. Clearly, Internet sites, expert criminals and other factors have helped solidify this illegal and powerful industry, which must drain the resources of law enforcement contingents. On behalf of [my church, my neighborhood (cite hood), myself, etc.] I ask that you identify the right resources to train your prosecutors to utilize, to their fullest extent, provisions of the Illinois Trafficking of Persons and Involuntary Servitude Act, to prosecute traffickers arrested in Cook County.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

[your name here, city, zipcode]
